My wife and I have been to the Habitat store in Nashville several times. This is a great addition to the offerings in Smyrna.

Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity (RCHFH) is excited to announce the Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting of their second Habitat ReStore in Rutherford County on Friday, April 21, in time to celebrate Earth Day, April 22, and the store's commitment to recycling items that can be reused and repurposed. The new store is located in the Gillsville Family Shopping Center at 413 Nissan Blvd, Smyrna and will start accepting donations on Saturday, April 8 and Saturday, April 15, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Regular store hours will be Tuesday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. They will also offer pick-up services for large items.

What is a community pass?

I belatedly noticed that Smyrna was using the Community Pass System to register for local events that administer. I had not heard of it, so I went to check it out.

Community Pass is your resource for registering to programs and activities within your community. To begin start by typing the name of the Community or Organization for which you wish to register.

Type ONLY 'Smyrna', and the auto pull down will show "Smyrna, Town of, TN"...if you quickly type in 'Smyrna Tennessee' it will not let you go forward...at least it would not allow me.

Then you create an account and register for local events.

This sounds like a lot of fun

I normally don't do Murfreesboro outside of their free movie nights, but this sounds like enough fun that I figured it was worth it.

Ministry in Motion, Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital’s Mobile Health Unit, is a part of Saint Thomas' mission to help serve the poor and improve the health of disadvantaged individuals and communities. It exists to help provide healthcare to individuals who can not afford it. A faith based institution, Saint Thomas is driven by its Christian principles to help serve those in need.

This might be the first crime I have posted about here on This is Smyrna that involves vandalism and cooking oil.

On Sunday 3/26/17 a vandalism occurred in the parking lot of the strip mall at the corner of Rocksprings Road and Old Nashville Hwy. The suspects pulled into a parking space in front of the Stop and Shop Tobacco store, then proceeded to dump a large quantity of cooking oil onto the parking lot surface. The vandalism has caused the oil to be tracked across the parking lot, and into all the surrounding business, producing a slippery surfaces and hazardous conditions. The suspects are a black male and female. The suspect vehicle is a gray Kia Soul. The male suspect goes into the Stop and Shop Tobacco store after dumping the oil and is captured on security video. A local event for the sake of animals...and wine.

Let's Make Wine will be hosting Purple Paws Animal Charity's monthly fundraising event for specific Animal projects. We pick a Rutherford county based project or animal to help. We will take requests for where our assistance as needed. Animals may be Service, Domestic, or Wild to help. Doing some police catch up

The following numerous people have been seen gracing the FaceBook page for the Smyrna Police Department. Take a moment and see if you can help them

The following suspect entered Target in Smyrna on two different occasions and pushed out a TV without paying for them. He was seen getting into a dark colored SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer. This vehicle was driven by a second suspect. If anyone can identify the suspect or has information on this case, contact Detective Anderson at 615.267.5433 or jason.anderson@townofsmyrna.org.

The pictured individuals are believed to be responsible for an auto burglary as well as the fraudulent use of a credit card. A vehicle was burglarized and damaged at Planet Fitness. A short time later, the victim’s card was used to purchase over $500.00 worth of merchandise at Publix. The suspects were driving a small, late model white sedan, possibly a Buick Verano. Both of these crimes happened in Smyrna on 3/1/17.

Smyrna Police reminds citizens to keep valuable items out of view while parking their vehicles.

On March 21, 2017 two suspects entered Darlin’s bar and grill located at 1203 Hazelwood Drive. The suspects took an ATM machine and cash from within the business. Anyone who may have information as to the identity of the two suspects or where the vehicle may be located is asked to contact Detective Allan Nabours with the Smyrna Police Department at (615) 267-5434.

On March 16th, a customer of the Shell Station on President's Place unknowingly dropped his wallet in the doorway. The pictured man and woman began to enter the business. The woman picked up the wallet and placed it in her purse. They left the store and drove away in a black Jeep Cherokee (pictured). Anyone who may be able to identify the man and woman is asked to contact Detective Allan Nabours at (615) 267-5434.

Get rid of those old cans of paint

It is in Murfreesboro, but it is still a good thing to do.

Oil-Based Paint Collection

Oil-based paint only will be collected and properly disposed of on Saturday, March 25th from 8:00am – 11:00am at 1140 Haley Road in Murfreesboro. This collection is for households only. Oil-based paint is only considered minimally hazardous and is no longer accepted at the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection. This is in compliance with standards set by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).

Latex paint, also called acrylic paint, will NOT be collected at this or any other event since it is not actually a hazardous material. Instead it is a nuisance waste that should be dried at home before disposing of in the regular trash. If it is not dried before disposal it will leak and splatter onto roads and cars during transport to the landfill. For more information on proper solidification and disposal methods please refer to the county website at www.rutherfordcountytn.gov/environmental and then click on the “Education” link. Flyers can also be mailed by calling (615) 542-4633.

Refer to the label to determine if paint is either latex or oil-based. The clean up process for latex paint is just soap and water, but the clean up for oil-based paint, also referred to as alkyd, requires solvents to clean brushes and rollers.

The Town of Smyrna is offering a FREE CPR and AED Class at the 3rd Annual Family Safety and Preparedness Expo on Saturday, April 1st. The Expo will be held at the Smyrna Event Center, 100 Sam Ridley Parkway East. The class time is scheduled for 9:00am to 3:00pm. The class is limited to the first 75 registrations received.

Purpose
The American Red Cross CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing emergencies. The courses in this program teach the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.

Length: Course time will be from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Courses: The CPR/AED course being offered will consist of the following modules:

CPR (Adult/Child/Infant)
AED (Adult/Child/Infant)
Certification Requirements

Attend all class sessions.
Participate in all course activities and successfully complete written examination.
Demonstrate proficiency in all required skills.
